Child and Toddler Friendly Holiday Park in North Devon
Surf Bay Holiday Park is a family friendly park just five minutes walk from the centre of the beachside village of Westward Ho! on the North Devon coast. This is a holiday park that is perfect for families with toddlers and young children, plenty of space, quiet and extremely well maintained. All of the modern luxury apartments are child friendly, with plenty of space outside in a quiet atmosphere and perfect for family holidays with young children.
For families with toddlers that are not restricted to holidays during the school breaks, there are some fantastic offers at our 4 star holiday accommodation making Surf Bay an affordable family friendly holiday park on the North Devon coast.
The park is located off of a road that leads to the centre of the village and also backs onto the Northam Burrows Country Park. This huge expanse covers 253 hectares, the area around the park is predominantly short grass so you can easily see your children playing and it offers a huge expanse to explore and release some of that pent up energy. You can access the beach at Westward Ho! by footpath from the holiday park, it is a short walk so there is no need for you to drive.
Westward Ho! beach is family friendly, there is ramp access from the slipway at Westward Ho! and at the Sandymere end of the beach. The rest of the beach is accessed via a pebble ridge that protects the country park from the sea. The beach is patrolled by RNLI Lifeguards from the middle of May to the end of September, usually from around 10am to 6pm.
The beach itself is sand although on high tides, the sea water does come up to the pebble ridge. The beach does offer great surf but is gently sloping so does not suffer the very dangerous rip currents of other beaches. It is always our advice for families with young children to swim and use the beach between the lifeguard patrolled flags and there are typically two patrolled areas. At the southern end of the beach, there is direct access with a ramp for buggies that takes you into the heart of Westward Ho! Here you will find toilets, cafes and restaurants as well as amusement arcades, ice cream parlours and plenty of space.
If you like to walk with your young children and toddlers, Westward Ho! is ideal. There is a long promenade at the south of the beach that eventually leads to the coastal footpath, a good walk if you have a buggy or toddlers and is safe. There are also rock pools at this end of the beach, great for fishing and as the area is predominantly formed from smoothed boulders, suitable for younger children. There is also a sea pool with access from the promenade so you can have a paddle in this relatively shallow pool, perfect if you have young children that are relatively new to open water.
Surf Bay Holiday Park itself is pet friendly, very well kept and generally a quiet holiday park, a great place for young families with an open grass space in the centre of the park. There are 5mph speed limits to ensure our customers drive slowly and the park is designed to offer minimal hazards for all. We take a lot of pride in the presentation of our park, it is friendly, sociable and a perfect base for families with young children.
